I think that we have experimented a lot of these kinds of situations in this Country. It"s really frustating to know about a topic in our native Language, but we can not talk about the same topic in English.
When I came here, the second month, I went to a dinner with people who grew up in countries where their native language is Spanish, but they also have perfect English. In this party I couldnt speak at all. I felt really bad about it.
I felt a lot of frustation at the begining, and I was depressed for a couple of days. Then, I thought I have to speak like them or even better. So I started working it out everyday. Now, I realize that I can keep a conversation with a native english which is AWESOME for me! I had to work really hard in this, but I got it!!!

Jackie,
ReplyDeleteWhat a great story--in a way, it sounds like that first frustrating party really motivated you, and it's so important to learn how to turn our disappointments into galvanizing experiences. Being able to converse with a native speaker is awesome--congratulations!
